Outside the earth, there exists a mysterious and untouchable universe that lots of people who are space and astronomy lovers would like to explore more about the secrets of Galaxy with their own eyes. However, due to the barrier of distance, the possible way to know more about the appearance of universe is to rely on an extremely long lens to capture things by magnification. Nikon has issued a large number of very long lenses and in 1970 it even produced the longest reaching lens “Reflex Nikkor 2000mm f/11” ever made for the 35mm system. Consisting of extremely long 2000mm focal distance and extremely high 40X magnification of the subject, it was Nikon’s great breakthrough in providing closer and clearer astronomy photography. Moreover, the long lens has only a limited production of 300 pieces and requires special ordering. As it is difficult to be found in market, this lens is very precious.

The completely hand-made Reflex Nikkor 2000mm f/11 was first shown up in 1970. Having a very large body, together with the specifically designed holder, it weights 25kg in total. The long lens possesses 1° 10' picture angle and the optical design of 5 elements in 5 groups. As the aperture is fixed at f/11, if photographers want to use fast shutter speed to reduce the chance of blurry images caused by magnification, they need to shoot photos under a favourable lighting condition in order to have adequate light. Moreover, the white body of the lens is designed to minimize thermal effect, considering the frequent use in outdoor. The top of the lens includes a carrying handle for the convenience of movement. Its body also includes two built-in knobs, one for controlling focusing from the closest focusing distance 18m (60ft) to infinity, and the other for choosing filter among ultraviolet (L37C), yellow (Y48), orange (O56) and red (R60).

The super long 2000mm focal length makes distance no longer distance, allowing any untouchable things such as wildlife and the outer space to be captured. Particularly for astronomy lovers, they would be satisfied with Nikon Reflex Nikkor 2000mm f/11 for the possibility to have the closest look at the universe. This reflex lens makes photographs special by the interesting “circles” appearing outside the focusing area. Though experiencing a long period of more than 40 years, Nikon Reflex Nikkor 2000mm f/11 can still work with all today’s F-mount digital SLR cameras.
